I was tired from working all night. The storm began around the time I started nodding off. Before I went to bed I peeked out of my window and saw this. I've lived here for over 4 years and this is the first time this street has flooded. I was also a little worried because my flood insurance payment hadn't quite posted so I didn't know if I was still technically covered or not. Fortunately by the afternoon the storm passed over.

I was working late when the cleaning lady came running in fear. I followed her to find this critter in the building.

Now don't be fooled! It may look like a harmless, baby grass snake but for all I know it could be a baby cobra or brown mamba that escaped from somewhere.

I'm not Jeff Corwin so naturally I don't carry any snake catching gear. So I had to improvise with a Starbucks cup and a plastic fork. I avoided it's head at all cost in case one bite and I'm gone.

Now it's mad. He wants to bite me!

I had to run an errand and like an idiot I ran it in Friday, Houston rush hour traffic. I get to the intersection Chimney Rock and Hwy 59 was backed up. For about 20 minutes I slowly crept up to the intersection and spotted the problem. There was a major (meaning someone was hurt) accident in the intersection. I could see two cops. One was working information while the other was directing all four directions of traffic. I saw a cop car pull up, then turn around and drive off! Talk about worthless leaving his fellow officer to direct all that traffic by himself. I'm in a lane that forces you to turn into the crash meaning I'm not going anywhere so I put it in park and activate the flashers. Now, common sense would tell you that you can't go that way. However people behind me pass me, drive through the designated safety zone and into the wreck and get stuck! As they pass me most of them are on their ***damned cell phones! I can't believe it! How stupid are these people? I'm normally not a judgemental person but these people are simply retarded! Their mothers smoked or drank during pregnancy or were related to the father by blood! How ****** stupid are these people? So I sat there and made people wait until I found an opening and turned away and found another route to my destination. The bottom line is that Houston drivers are retarded! That is all!

1940 Air Terminal Museum

I took a trip to the 1940 Air Terminal Museum. Prior to then I didn't know it existed. I shot these photographs. Hopefully when the restoration is done I'll be able to go upstairs and into the tower. I'm sure it's a hell of a view from there. As I walked through I wondered about all the travellers from decades ago travelling all over the place.

I spent a chilly, windy morning on some remote property in Hempstead. I had a good time despite the conditions. Someone apparently lives (or lived) in that bus. Also, I noticed the cows were interested in what we were doing there. Good thing for zoom lenses because that's the only way I would've gotten close to those calfs with momma cow standing by.

I found this abandoned theatre in downtown Rosenberg. While I was shooting these pictures a black woman came up to me and asked if I got any good shots. She told me she used to come to this theatre when she was a kid. I guess this around the late 1950s, maybe the early 1960s. She told me that the black people sat in the upstairs portion while the white people sat on the first floor. Segregation was still the law of the land at this time.

An old theatre. Obviously no longer in business. Imagine older residents walking past this building reflecting on old times they spent here watching movies, eating popcorn, making out, etc.

Now a missionary organization, this used to be the Redland Hotel 100 years ago. In 1908, Presidential Candidate William Jennings Bryan (and prosecutor in the infamous Scopes Monkey Trial) gave a speech from this balcony.

An original land office I would imagine.

Christmas Party

My wife and I went to a Christmas party at our old neighbor's place in north Houston. Despite the cold we had a good time. We sat outside by the fire chatting with total strangers. Well, the faces were familiar from the many times we used to go there when we lived up there. One couple had a tough time though. The man forgot his beer was in his chair when he went to put a log on the fire. He then sat on it. His wife walked off the platform and fell down. I helped her up, made sure she wasn't hurt. She was more humiliated than anything. She shouldn't feel bad. We've all had embarrassing moments. I see this as a reflection of people. Mostly acquaintances (except for the hosts). Everyone was there to relax and enjoy the atmosphere, no politics, no differences, no special interests types to divide them.
